Lynch invented Steam Punk; his aesthetics were brilliant; his Dune was/is remarkable for creating great scifi without (very much) CGI. Loved his casting. His bad luck was 9/11 which made the references to jihad in his movie too evocative for content moderators to overcome (pure speculation on my part).

Nice post, but one big correction. ;) It's not 10,191 AD = 8,000 years from now. It's 10,191 *AG* as in After Guild. The Guild was formed after the Butlerian Jihad, which itself is about 10,000 years in our future. :)

My sense of it is that Villeneuve is trying to portray ‘what happens in the book’ while Lynch tried to portray ‘how it feels to read the book’. ‘Physical’ vs ‘Emotional’ adaptations, maybe.
